The Sierra Club 'Get Out' Campaign Celebrates Earth Month With Celebrity Auction

The Sierra Club has been celebrating Earth  Month with their Get Out campaign which is, not surprisingly, designed to encourage all of us to go outside and enjoy our planet in safe and environmentally responsible ways. The organization has long been one of the most vocal and influential voices championing the cause for keeping some of our favorite places well protected for future generations to enjoy as well.

As part of the Get Out initiative, the Club has been running some interesting auctions on Ebay to serve as a fundraiser for their important and varied efforts. Many of the items on the auction come from celebrity supports of the Sierra Club's mission and all proceeds generated from the auction go directly toward their goal of  working "to educate, inspire, and empower humanity to preserve the natural and human environment." If you'd like to help out the Sierra Club, while picking up some fun items for yourself, perhaps you'll want to place some bids.

And what exactly do they have up for auction? Well, I'm glad you asked. You'll find everything from a skateboard deck autographed by Shawn White to a training session with Tae Bo creator Billy Blanks. You can also bid to take a tour of the Weather Channel or to get a 4-night stay at the Pali Uli Garden's Waterfall House on Maui in Hawaii. There are even some fun celebrity encounters up for grabs too, such as the very popular get out and hang with Elle MacPherson option.

That's not all however. The Club is also giving away a trip for two for a 5-night stay to the Four Seasons Resort in Lanai. Who couldn't use a quick escape to Hawaii at the moment? To sign up, simply fill out this form online.  All of these auctions are going to a great cause, so if you see something of interest, such as Elle MacPherson (currently going for just $559!), be sure to make a bid!

And Earth Day may be passed, but Earth Month isn't over yet. Find out more about the Get Out campaign by clicking here.

Sierra Club Needs Two Interns For Best Internship On Earth

Attention college students or those who are about to graduate! The Sierra Club is once again looking for candidates to fill their Best Internship on Earth position, which is always a highly coveted gig. Over the past couple of years, the intern has spent ten weeks of their summer traveling across the U.S., taking part in all kinds of adventurous activities and serving as part of the Sierra Club's advocacy program, helping spread the word about the importance of protecting our favorite outdoor places. Those interns would write blog posts and create videos about their activities, sharing all of the cool things they were doing and generally making the rest of us feel jealous about not getting the internship ourselves. This year, that tradition will continue, although this time there are two internships up for grabs.

The 2013 interns will work in tandem with one another as they once again hit the road for the Sierra Club. They'll be creating even more multimedia productions as they shoot, edit and share video of their adventures. Along the way they'll pick up valuable skills, develop communications techniques and work closely with the Club's staff on a number of projects.

To be eligible for the Best Internship on Earth you must be at least 18 years old by May 15 and be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legal resident with a work permit. The internship begins in June and runs into August. Both interns will receive compensation for their work, will have all of their travel expenses paid and will receive $1000 worth of gear from The North Face to keep them outfitted for the road.

For more information visit the Best Internship on Earth webpage. To apply for the position, simply fill out this form online. Applications are due by April 9, so hurry! This is a great opportunity and I would have personally loved to have done something like this while I was in college.

Sierra Club Now Accepting Applications For Best Internship On Earth

Head's up students and recent grads! Have you been looking for an internship for the coming summer, but you've been holding out for something really, really good? Then your search is over, as the Sierra Club has announced that it is now accepting applications for the Best Internship on Earth.

So what exactly does an intern for the Sierra Club do? Well, the person hired for this position will actually  be traveling around the country as part of the Club's Mission Outdoors program, which is focused on getting young people outside to enjoy nature. While on those travels, the intern will be writing and editing videos about all the cool things they'll be seeing and doing and sharing them on the SC website.

To be considered for the position, candidates should have a love for the outdoors, enjoy travel, and be open to new experiences. The should also be able to weave a good story, have skills with video cameras and editing software, and be able to engage the Sierra Club community online. In exchange, the person hired will have an exciting and fun filled summer of travel and will be fully outfitted with $2000 of North Face gear.

In order to be eligible, you must be between the ages of 18 and 25, and submit a 60-90 second clip explaining why you are the ideal candidate for this internship. That video should demonstrate your love for the outdoors and show off your personality and enthusiasm as well.

Sounds like a fun way to spend the summer. Too bad I'm only slightly outside of that age range.
