Video: Scenes From Joshua Tree

It's no secret that I fell in love with Joshua Tree National Park when I visited a few a years back. The landscapes there are starkly beautiful, to say the least. The video below was shot by Ari Fararooy on a three-day visit this past January. Ari used a remote controlled drone to capture some of the shots, but what impresses me most is the use of sound. Joshua Tree is a quiet place, and Ari has captured the essence of that very nicely here.

Video: Iconic Joshua Tree

Today we have another great timelapse video from the folks over at Sunchaser Pictures. It captures more of the surreal and beautiful landscapes in and around Joshua Tree, a spectacular setting to say the least. If you haven't had the opportunity to go there yourself, it is definitely a destination that I recommend.

NPCA Implores President Obama To Improve Air In National Parks

The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) has petitioned President Obama urging him to take immediate action to clean up the air in America's national parks. This move comes after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) took air samples in ten of the nation's most iconic parks and found that while air quality is improving it is doing so at an incredibly slow rate. So slow in fact, that the NPCA predicts it could take up to 300 years before the parks return to their natural states.

The complete list of the ten parks the EPA surveyed, along with the estimated year that each will return to its level of natural air quality are listed below.
• North Cascades National Park (Washington) – 2276
• Badlands National Park (South Dakota) – 2265
• Voyageurs National Park (Minnesota) – 2177
• Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming/Montana/Idaho) – 2163
• Theodore Roosevelt National Park (North Dakota) – 2158
• Big Bend National Park (Texas) – 2155
• Grand Canyon National Park (Arizona) – 2127
• Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (Colorado) – 2119
• Joshua Tree National Park (California) – 2106
• Sequoia National Park (California) – 2096
The 1977 Clean Air Act and the 1998 Regional Haze Rule were created to help improve air quality in the national parks. But thanks to loop holes in those pieces of legislation, clean-up is going much slower than expected. The NPCA's petition to the President encourages him to close those loop holes and hold polluters responsible for their actions. By taking these actions it is hoped that the air quality can being to improve much sooner. To add your name to the petition, click here

As someone who happens to love America's national parks I have to whole heartedly get behind this petition. The parks are some oft he best outdoor playgrounds in the world and they really should be protected for future generations to enjoy too. I'm encouraged to hear that air quality is improving but it is sad to hear that it could take up to ten generations to get them back to their natural state. If that is as unacceptable to you as it is to me, then click on the link above and add your name to the petition.

Video: Everyday Adventure With The Perseid Meteor Shower In Joshua Tree National Park

I shared a great video a few weeks back that was shot in Joshua Tree National Park and featured timelapse images of the Perseid Meteor Shower. Today we have another video shot in the same place at the same time. This one actually shows off more of the stark beauty of Joshua Tree and intermixes some stunning shots of the night sky during the meteor shower as well. There is definitely plenty of eye candy to go around here.

Video: The Perseid Meteor Shower Captured In Timelapse In Joshua Tree

This video is brief, to the point and utterly beautiful. It features timelapse images captured in Joshua Tree National Park during the Perseid Meteor Shower which took place this past weekend. The shower is an annual event that always comes around in early-August and at it's peak, as many as 50-60 shooting stars can be seen in a single hour. It is, quite simply, one of the best celestial shows that you'll ever see, but just in case you managed to miss it, the video below will give you a glimpse of what you can expect next year.

Video: Another Beautiful Timelapse From Joshua Tree

Lets wrap things up today with another amazing timelapse video from Joshua Tree. As usual, the images captured here by the filmmaker are simply breathtaking. The video opens with clouds moving through, but then gives way to incredibly clear skies with a billion stars overhead. Definitely a sight to behold. While you can enjoy the small version of the two-minute film here on my page, to get the full effect you'll want to watch it in HD and with a good pair of headphones.

I really need to go back to Joshua Tree. Such a wonderful place.

Video: Joshua Tree Timelapse

Located in the California desert, Joshua Tree is one of the most beautiful and tranquil settings that I've ever seen. I had the opportunity to visit the area for the first time last year and simply fell in love the place. The video below reminds of just how spectacular a setting Joshua Tree really is, particularly at night, when a billion stars appear overhead.

The timelapse imagery was captured by the gang over at Sunchaser Pictures, who took these photos while visiting this past weekend. The short two-minute clip is a wonderful way to start the day.
