Weighing in at just 5.8 ounces (167 grams), the Ghost is super light but still manages to include some significant technology under its hood. For instance, the camera features a 2-inch LCD screen, protected with Gorilla Glass, which allows viewing of shots before you ever begin filming. It also is clear enough to be review videos, even while outside in the bright sun. The Ghost also features built-in WiFi that allows it to interact with a new Drift app (coming soon we're told!) that will allow you to start and stop the camera, change settings and share videos to your favorite social media sites. It even comes with a great little remote control which can be worn on your wrist, allowing you to control the camera from up to 30-feet away. The remote even includes activity lights that can tell you which mode the camera is in at any given time.
The HD Ghost is water proof down to three meters without an external housing and it has excellent battery life as well. Drift says it is the best in the field, getting three hours of recording time out of the camera's included 1700 mAh battery. The camera is capable of capturing footage from WVGA resolutions all the way up to full 1080p HD. It takes 11-megapixel still shots, has a 170ยบ wide angle lens and comes with 256 MB of onboard storage but can take micro-SD cards up to 32GB.
The new Drift HD Ghost is available for pre-order now and will begin shipping in another week or so. If you've been waiting for a good alternative to the ubiquitous GoPro, this just might be your best alternative yet.
